Does not give clean clothes : LG WM3360HVCA WM3360HVCA Front Load Washer

We purchased an LG 3360; actually WM3360HWCA and found immediately that our clothes smelled and the towels came out crusty compared to the old top loading Kenmore we owned. We thought we must be putting in too much soap so we used a fraction of the soap (about 1/4 cap full of soap...well below the "normal" indicator of the unit) and put lots of extra Downey in. The towels were still crusty. We then figured we'd use the "Heavy Duty" wash with the extra rinse feature and still they were crusty and had an unpleasant smell. Then we used the downy dryer sheet as well as the above and they smelled slightly better. We noticed while the towels were washing that they were soaked with water but there was not one bit of extra water; just soaked towels being tossed about but no sloshing of water and realized that the water saving device was allowing so little water that the towels couldn't possibly get clean especially if there were wash clothes with bar soap residue still in them. We called LG and they had us call Sears Repair. The repairman came out and watched us wash a load wash. He then said "This is a common complaint that he hears. There is nothing wrong; it is operating as it was designed. He took off the cover (screws are in the back of the machine and you pull the cover back 2 inches and then can lift it up) and showed a screw in the rear left side of the unit that dictates the water usage. The Screw is surrounded by a red color and if it gets turned it will turn the color blue so that they know it has been tampered with. He said he couldn't turn that screw but I could if I wanted to. Bottom line; this unit uses 1/10 the water the old top loading machine used and is so water efficient that the Washing machine is unable to do what it's primary usage is; namely to wash clothes. We love all the features of this but are not going to void a warrenty to use more water so have opted to return the unit. I do not recommend this unit and would be cautious of purchasing washing machines that are High Efficiency and have no option to choose water usage.
